Majabe banking on FKFPL platform to secure a deal abroad

Former Mombasa Elite captain Shariff Majabe unsuccessfully tried his hand at professional football after failing to make the cut during the trials with Belgian giants KAA Gent.

The versatile defender attended trials alongside the trio of Brian Galo, Dan Odhiambo and Chrispine Erambo in May last year.

They all didn’t prevail and subsequently returned to Mombasa Elite who play trade in the National Super League (NSL).

Despite failing to land a deal with Gent, Majabe has not given up in his dream to play in the paid-up ranks.

The player who can play as a centre back and as a central defensive midfielder as well believes that playing for Bandari and in the country’s top flight will thrust him to the next level.

Majabe joined Bandari last month on a season-long deal from Elite. He is set to be unveiled before the season kicks off.

He featured in the international friendly match against Tanzanian Premier League side Azam played five days ago at the Chamazi Complex.

“I am ready for the new challenge. I believe I will have a good season with Bandari. Playing for a club of such caliber I believe will lead me to Europe soon,” he said.

Majabe shares an agent with Harambee Stars centre back Joseph Okumu who recently joined the French League One from Gent.

The towering defender penned a five-year long contract with Stade Reims and debuted in the league last Saturday against Olympique de Marseille who won 2-1.

Okumu has had a successful career since exiting the Kenyan league in 2017 after landing a deal with South Africa’s Free State Stars.

“The door to the professional level will surely open. I am confident that my hard work and determination will bear fruit,” he said.

Majabe joined Elite in 2021 after finishing his studies at Laiser Hill High School.

He began enjoying limelight after starring during the second and third editions of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom tournaments.
