Man City win a court case against Premier League

Reading Time: 2min | Fri. 14.02.25. | 23:21

A massive blow for England's top tier

A huge win for Man City! This time, not on the pitch, but in court. Namely, according to The Times, Premier League rules concerning sponsorship deals (regarding the 2021-2024 period) have been pronounced "void and unenforceable" by the tribunal.

Last October, an independent court declared three elements of the rules regarding Associated Party Transactions (APT) unlawful, while the rules mentioned above were supposed to prevent commercial deals between the clubs and their owners' companies, which could lead to gaining profit.

Even though the Cityzens immediately entered a "legal battle" with the Premier League, England's top tier still implemented the rules with the support of 16 out of 20 clubs.

This decision could cause a major discontent among the PL sides. Moreover, numerous clubs could file lawsuits asking for compensation for all the deals made between 2021 and 2024.

And while Man City's legal team considers the outcome an utmost triumph, the Premier League faces significant financial loss (for legal costs), which will amount to approximately £10 million.
