The club's executives will give their proposal to Sir Jim Rattclife
When Ruben Amorim called out the sporting sector after a poor 1-1 draw against Leeds, it was the end of the Portuguese in Manchester United. In came former midfielder Michael Carrick as an interim manager and since than, the Red Devils got back on the winning track. Since January, when United was seventh in the Premier League (11 points and five places behind rivals Manchester City), Carrick led them to the third place (six points above Liverpool in fourth with two games to play) and the Champions League, which they missed for the last two seasons. And now, his good work seems to have paid off as, according to the Athletic, the same sporting sector which appointed him in January will propose Carrick as the permanent manager.
Both CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox will give their opinion at the upcoming executive committee meeting, which will be held sometime this week and they are expected to back Carrick to become the permanent coach of the Red Devils. After Berrada’s failed experiment with Amorim (it was his personal choice), this time it was Wilcox who appointed Carrick and both men are satisfied with him, and will give their positive opinion to Sir Jim Rattclife who, as the co-owner in charge of the sporting matters will make the final decision. Carrick stabilized the squad, promoted some academy talents like Mainoo and Ayden Heaven, and fulfilled the main goal – Champions League place, which was the final moment which both Berrada and Wilcox waited. The sporting director had a dilemma what would happen in case there is a result crisis and how Carrick would react to it, but so far everything looked good he was also backed by players in the team, so there was no reason to further delay the decision. United have been weighing up their options, with Andoni Iraola and Unai Emery among the figures considered. Staff members made background checks on several candidates, but in the end it will probably be a house call.
