Despite the loss Sundowns still hold a massive 16 point advantage at the summit of the log

Kenyan international Brian Mandela was an unused substitute as Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their first loss of the season after going down 1-0 to AmaZulu in the South African Premier Soccer League.

The defender took his usual place on the bench as Sundowns came up against an AmaZulu side that was struggling to keep up the pace in the title race.

AmaZulu under head coach Benni McCarthy have however punched above their weight as they finished runners up in the league last season and are currently third on the log after the win.

Sundowns squandered a number of chances in the first half and were meant to pay in the 75th minute when Augustine Mulenga dispatched Amigo Memela’s pass past the onrushing Dennis Onyango to hand AmaZulu the lead.

Usuthu held on for the win as Sundowns suffered their first loss of the season and still hold a massive 16 point buffer against Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu who are locked on 27 points.

John Avire

Kenyan international John Avire missed the matchday squad as Misr Lel Makkasa registered a barren draw against El Sharkia Lel Dokhan in the Egyptian Premier League.

The forward has missed the last two games for Makkasa with the club failing to provide an update on why the former Sofapaka talisman has been out.

Tyler Onyango

Kenyan midfielder Tyler Onyango missed Everton Under 23’s barren draw against Leeds United in the Premier League 2.

Onyango has been part of the Everton first-team owing to a number of injuries in the squad and made his second appearance in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea over the weekend.
