After his loan spell at Everton came to an end, Grealish is returning to the Etihad — and he may end up staying there after all
Jack Grealish is set to report back to Manchester City after his loan spell with Everton, and a managerial change at the Etihad could completely reshape his future. With Pep Guardiola preparing to step down at the end of the season, incoming boss Enzo Maresca is reportedly ready to give the England international another opportunity in Manchester.
Grealish spent the past campaign at Everton after slipping out of Guardiola’s plans. Tensions between the pair reportedly grew during the closing stages of last season, eventually leading to the winger being left out of City’s Club World Cup squad for the tournament in the United States. Seeking regular football and a fresh environment, Grealish made the temporary move to Goodison Park in hopes of rediscovering his best form.

Unless told otherwise, Grealish is expected to return for City’s pre-season training in July. 👀

However, his season was disrupted in January by a stress fracture in his foot, an injury that also cost him a place at this summer’s World Cup. Believing his future at City was effectively over under Guardiola, the 30-year-old had been open to staying at Everton permanently.
But Guardiola’s departure after ten years in charge may have changed the situation dramatically. Maresca, expected to take over this summer, is said to view Grealish as a player who could still play an important role in City’s plans. Talks between the two are expected once the new coach officially arrives.
Signed for a British-record £100 million in 2021, Grealish will enter the final year of his contract next month. Everton remain interested in keeping him, but Maresca’s opinion could ultimately prove decisive. For now, Grealish is still expected back for pre-season training in July ahead of City’s summer tour in the Far East unless he is informed otherwise.

Despite his difficult period at the club, Grealish has maintained strong relationships within the squad, particularly with Erling Haaland. He was also a key starter in the Champions League final during City’s historic treble-winning campaign three years ago.
