Homeboyz finished second in the premature 19/20 season, just seven points behind first placed Gor Mahia

Kakamega Homeboyz forward Christopher Masinza has backed his team to find their hitherto impressive form after a difficult start to the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season. Homeboyz were declared runners up to Gor Mahia in last season’s campaign that was prematurely cut short due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Nicholas Muyoti-led side has accumulated 18 points this season and currently sits in 11th place on the log after managing five wins in fifteen games played. Forward Masinza, in an interview on the league’s website, has now gone ahead to acknowledge the slow start to the season but has lauded the team’s character as they embark on steadying the ship in the second half of the campaign.

“We all had to admit that we started poorly and that it would take some time for us to get our groove back. Most importantly, we did not panic and we kept our cool,” he stated.

The forward, who only opened his goal account this season with back-to-back goals in their last two fixtures against Gor Mahia and Mathare United, also pointed out that lack of a scoring touch had contributed massively to the club’s shortcomings at the start of the season. In the first six games of the season, Abana Abeingo had only netted two goals.

“We had trouble scoring for the few matches that followed after matchday 2 but we eventually found our way. Everyone puts in the work and a goal expected from anyone. I think that’s why our goals are evenly spread across the team,” he added.

The quest to improve continues for Homeboyz as they welcome Sofapaka in their next league encounter on Sunday at Kakamega’s Bukhungu’s Stadium.
