Matano led Tusker to a twelfth league title as Ouna miraculously saved Mathare United from the jaws of relegation
Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano and KCB boss Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno headline a six-man list of coaches including Mathare United’s hero Frank Ouna as candidates who have been nominated for the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League coach of the year award.
Apart from the trio, AFC Leopards' Patrick Aussems, who took over the club midway through the season in February, is also a part of the nominees that include Bandari’s Andre Casa Mbungo and Kariobangi Sharks William Muluya.
“Six tacticians have been shortlisted for the Football Kenya Federation Premier League 2020/2021 Coach of the Year Award. The awards gala will be held on September 14, 2021 at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi where outstanding performers in the concluded season will be feted.
Coach of the Year Nominees: Andre Casa Mbungo (Bandari), Zedekiah Otieno (KCB), Patrick Aussems (AFC Leopards), Robert Matano (Tusker), William Muluya (Kariobangi Sharks), Frank Ouna (Mathare United),” a press statement from Football Kenya Federation read.

Despite Ouna helping Mathare luckily avoid the jaws of relegation after taking over from Salim Ali with the team deeply entrenched in the danger zone, the contest is expected to be between Tusker’s Matano and KCB’s Zico.
Matano ended Gor’s four-year dominance on the local scene as he led Tusker to their twelfth league crown and back into the continental CAF Champions League for the first time since 2017 after topping the league table with 65points.

Zico on the other hand steered the Bankers to a second-place finish, only three points behind champions Tusker after putting up a fight all season long.
Casa Mbungo led Bandari to a third-place finish after taking over in January. Belgian Aussems helped Ingwe to fourth as Muluya led Sharks to fifth.
