Match-fixing suspects released on Ksh 300,000 bail

Russian national Akhiad Kubiev, Ugandan Bernard Nabende and Kenyan Martin Munga Mutua were arrested for attempting to fix the Nairobi City Stars versus Sofapaka FKFPL match
The three match fixing suspects arrested by Kenyan police officers on Friday night for conspiring to influence the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match between Nairobi City Stars and Sofapaka have been released on a cash bail of Ksh. 300,000 each with two sureties.
This is after the trio consisting of Russian national Akhiad Kubiev, Ugandan Bernard Nabende and Kenyan Martin Munga Mutua pleaded not guilty at the Makadara Law Courts on Monday afternoon.
In the case heard by principal Magistrate Eric Mutunga, the three were charged with two counts of charges where the first count was conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to section 393 of the penal code and count two which was cheating contrary to section 315 of the penal code.
"Akhiad Kubiev, Bernard Nabende and Martin Munga Mutua on diverse dates between 3 February 2023 and 10 March 2023 in Roysambu area within Kasarani Sub County of Nairobi County, jointly with others not before the court conspired to commit a felony namely cheating an act which is considered match fixing in football in any part of the world.”
“Akhiad Kubiev, Bernard Nabende and Martin Munga Mutua on the 10th day of March 2023 at Roysambu area, by fraudulent trick, you jointly conspired with others not before court by inducing Samson Otieno Aloo, the team manager of City Stars to deliver football match fixing of the the City Stars versus Sofapaka game which would be played at Ruaraka on 11 march 2023 by promising to pay him 14,000 USD at the end of the match, an act which would influence the result of the game,” the two charges read.
In an expose, Mozzart Sport recounted how the three individuals had tried to influence the outcome of the Saturday City Stars game against Sofapaka before their plans were intercepted after a well laid dragnet.
