The Real star is suffering from gastroenteritis
We didn’t see anything special from Real Madrid in their first match of the Club World Cup against Al Hilal. Xabi Alonso’s team played a modest game and managed to earn only a point. Now, a new problem has emerged for Madrid—Kylian Mbappe has been admitted to the hospital with gastroenteritis, and it is still unclear whether he will be able to play in the next match against Pachuca on Sunday. The French international has undergone a series of tests, and the results are still pending. Gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection that can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

Kylian missed Tuesday’s training due to a fever. He was immediately taken to his hotel room and had to eat separately from the rest of the team. People typically feel weak after this illness and often need several days—sometimes even a whole week—to fully recover.

Mbappe’s absence would be the biggest possible handicap for Real, even though they have enough individual quality to break down Pachuca without much trouble. Still, being without a player who scored 43 goals in his debut season—even if facing 11 amateurs on the other side—is an uncomfortable situation. If Real’s top scorer doesn’t recover in time, we can expect the same trio as against Al Hilal: Rodrygo – Gonzalo GarcÃa – VinÃcius. Should Mbappe's symptoms last for a fortnight, it could rule him out up until the quarter-finals of the competition while his conditioning would likely be a doubt.
