Mwita joined Bandari in 2019 from Sony Sugar

Bandari head coach Andre Casa Mbungo had a happy crossover to the new year after the club tied down his serial goal poacher Johana Mwita to a two-year long contract.

The forward was set to walk out of the coastal side last month as a free agent with Tanzanian outfit Biashara United being said to be on the forefront to tap in his services.

However, Mwita whose solo strike was enough to help Bandari finish the year on a high following their 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars on Wednesday at Mbaraki Stadium agreed to extend his stay for two more terms.

His goal saw the club relieve the pressure of going for four league matches without a win as the former Cup holders had drawn, Kakamega Homeboyz, Gor Mahia,KCB and Kariobangi Sharks before the Ulinzi duel.

Mwita who occasionally pairs Umaru Kasumba upfront has proved himself as a reliable goal scorer with majority of his goals in the past and current season turning out to be match winners.

"He renewed his contract and will serve us for two more seasons. If you keenly look at statistics, you will realize that his goals were crucial and it is a factor we considered before deciding to retain him. I encourage him to continue working hard for his benefit and that of the team, "revealed the Rwandese trainer.

Mwita's contract renewal was also confirmed by the club's team manager Albert Ogari.

Meanwhile, Mbungo is also elated to have two of his wingers;Benjamin Mosha and Darius Msagha back in action after recovering from injuries.

The former AFC Leopards coach admitted to have missed the two alongside Abdallah Hassan in their barren draw against Gor Mahia but he is glad to have them back.

"One of the reason as to why we struggled to win matches in recent weeks is the number of injuries we had in the team. All my wingers were on the treatment table but I am happy to have them back," he said.

Bandari will miss the services of their central attacking midfielder Ndemi Keegan when they open the year against Sofapaka at Wundanyi Stadium. The youthful midfielder, according to Mbungo will be out for at least three weeks.
