A club that gathers veterans on weekends could easily hold its own against some Premier League sides – because those very veterans once dominated that same league

How do you make an already dominant veteran side - one that’s stormed to consecutive promotions and lifted both the league and cup with an incredible record of 30 wins in 32 matches - even better?

Simple: bring in a lineup packed with players who’ve been there and done it at the highest levels of football.

That’s exactly what Wythenshawe AFC from Manchester have done. Their Over-35s team, competing in the Cheshire Vets League Premier Division, now boasts an extraordinary collection of former Premier League stars - nine of them, to be precise. Together, they’ve amassed 1,801 top-flight appearances, 222 goals, and 325 international caps.

Among the big names is Papiss Cisse, once a 9 million pounds signing for Newcastle United from Freiburg, who netted 37 goals in 117 Premier League matches. In his debut for Wythenshawe, Cisse turned back the clock - scoring all six goals in a 6–2 demolition of reigning champions Collegiate Old Boys, including a first-half hat-trick inside 32 minutes.

And the talent doesn’t stop there. The squad also features Emile Heskey, George Boyd, Oumar Niasse, Maynor Figueroa, Stephen Ireland, Nedum Onuoha, Joleon Lescott, and Danny Drinkwater - a group that collectively has 15 major trophies and has commanded around 123 million pounds in transfer fees during their careers.

A veteran side, yes - but one with the firepower and pedigree to make even the most decorated professional clubs take notice.
