Milan rally through Parma despite Ibra's red card

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 10.04.21. | 22:23

Three goals were enough for Rossoneri to clinch a vital victory in the championship race

Milan won a vital three points in Parma (3-1), but Rossoneri left the Ennio Tardini stadium with a bitter taste in their mouth. The main culprit for that is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was sent off fifteen minutes into the second half due to insults against referee Fabio Maresca, so now he is awaiting suspension.

At this moment, it's unknown what the experienced Swede told the referee, but the whole situation was illogical. The referee expelled Ibrahimovic after he ruled a foul in favour of the Rossoneri for a foul on Salemaekers. Ibra previously complained about pushing the opposing players, and then he obviously exaggerated, so the referee's reaction followed. By the way, Maresca is quite "light-handed" when it comes to red cards. In January, he got into a clinch with Antonio Conte, after which the Inter coach received a two-match suspension.

This is the second time in the season that the Milan players were given direct red cards for insulting the referees since it also happened to Ante Rebic, who firstly received a two-match suspension, but it was reduced later. This will be the second time that Ibrahimovic has been suspended since it has already happened to him due to two yellow cards in the Italian Cup's quarterfinals against Inter.

Before that, Ibrahimovic had serious merits for Milan's good result in the match. He assisted Rebic in the eighth minute of the game, and he also played an excellent double pass with Teo Hernandez, after which the Frenchman set up a goal for Frank Kessie minutes before the half-time break.

However, the Swede was directly responsible for Milan getting into trouble in the last half-hour, although before that, there was nothing to suggest that we could watch an exciting match. That became more than clear just six minutes later when Parma reduced the visitors' advantage with Ricardo Gagliolo's goal.

Fortunately for Milan, Parma did not have enough luck in the end, nor the capacity to chase a complete turnaround. The host went fully do-or-die in the last moments but missed two great chances before the visitors struck for the third time late in the stoppage time.
