Murang’a Seal will now shift focus back to their FKF Premier League campaign, with seven league matches remaining as they look to salvage their season
Murang’a Seal FC chairman Robert Macharia has admitted deep disappointment following the club’s heavy 5–1 defeat to Mfalme FC in the Mozzart Bet Cup Round of 16, a result that has raised serious questions within the Premier League side.
The FKF Division One Zone D outfit produced one of the shock results of the competition at the Eldoret ASK Showground on Saturday, outclassing Seal in a one-sided contest that saw the top-flight side bow out in humiliating fashion, despite a sizeable travelling support from the North Rift region.
Mfalme FC dictated proceedings from the onset, racing into an early lead through Amos Kanyere before Felix Ochieng doubled the advantage.
Payai Arok then struck twice as the Division One side maintained relentless pressure, with Kanyere later completing his brace to cap a dominant performance.
Murang’a Seal managed a late consolation from the penalty spot through Victor Haki, but it did little to mask a difficult afternoon for the Premier League side, who had reached the Cup semi-finals last season.
The result has since sparked internal uncertainty at the club, with reports indicating that head coach Osborne Monday has informed players of his willingness to step down, citing issues of insubordination within the squad.
His emotional post-match remarks are understood to have highlighted deeper concerns about discipline and cohesion in the team setup.
Speaking through the club’s official WhatsApp channel, Macharia issued an apology to supporters, describing the defeat as an embarrassment, while thanking fans who travelled to Eldoret to back the team.
“I take this opportunity to thank all our devoted fans who continue to be present for the team. I thank all the fans who travelled to Eldoret to support the team. Yesterday was a huge embarrassment to me and the management of our beloved club,” he said.
He further hinted at possible major changes within the club structure, calling for unity and urging supporters to stand by the management’s decisions, even if they may not agree with them.
“There’s no excuse. I want to request all our supporters to continue being there for our beloved team and promise that we shall fix what needs to be fixed. I urge all of us to support the decision that the club management shall make, even if we don’t fully agree with it. Thank you once more,” he added.
Murang’a Seal will now shift focus back to their FKF Premier League campaign, with seven league matches remaining as they look to salvage their season.
