MOZZART BET CUP: Shabana battles Police as underdogs Mfalme aim at Bandari

The match at Kisii will be a repeat of last weekend's league clash that ended in a goalless draw

The Prestigious Mozzart Bet Cup is back with quarter final matches in the offing, beginning with two matches scheduled for today, Saturday 2 May.

2024 Champions Police FC are on a mission to reclaim their title as they come face to face with Shabana, even as FKF Division One side Mfalme FC takes their title hunt to Bandari.

Shabana vs Police FC

Shabana welcomes Kenya Police at the Gusii Stadium from 1400 hrs, in what is today's highlight of the Cup game.

The match is a repeat of last weekend's league clash at the same venue, where the two sides battled out to a goalless draw.

Shabana who began the season brightly before their ship starting succumbing to ocean waves in the recent past, have set their eyes at the Cup, where they are seeking to make amends for the disappointing and unsuccessful league title push they have had this season.

“As a team, we are aiming to finish the league strongly, but we are majoring on the Mozzart Bet Cup and have therefore been using the league matches as a preparation for the same,” said Shabana assistant coach Andrea Ongwae.

Just like Shabana, Police have equally been underwhelming in the league this season, where they are currently third on the log, and 14 points behind league leaders Gor Mahia.

It is for that reason that just like Ongwae, head coach Nicholas Muyoti also revealed that the law enforcers have their attention directed at the Cup title.

“It looks like the league is now elusive, going by the gap and form of Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards. We also have to not only win a title, but also ensure that we play in continental football, and that means winning the cup. The players understand that, and all of us know that our efforts and attention is fully on the Cup games,” said Muyoti.

Bandari vs Mfalme

At the KPA Sports Club, Mombasa, Bandari will lock horns with Eldoret-based outfit Mfalme from 1545 hrs.

Mfalme are the only non- FKFPL side at this stage of the tournament, and will be looking at making it even better by securing a win and proceeding to the semi final.

Bandari, on the other hand, will be banking on coach Bernard Mwalala to replicate the strategy that won them the Cup in 2019, and return to continental football.

Being the quarter final, the man of the match winners in all matches will win a humanitarian cheque worth Ksh100,000 from Kenya’s leading gaming form, Mozzart Bet Kenya Limited.
