The defensive midfielder picked up a nasty knee injury against Bungoma Superstars in the FKF Cup round of 16

AFC Leopards midfielder Fabrice Mugheni is expected to face a lengthy stay on the sidelines after club doctor Boniventure Odire confirmed that injury suffered by the player will require surgery after scans revealed a meniscus damage.

Mugheni, who plays in the defensive midfield position picked up the knee injury just minutes after coming on at half time in Ingwe’s 4-2 comeback win against Bungoma Superstars in the Football Kenya Federation Cup round of 16 match.

Further scans have now revealed that the player suffered meniscus damage and the Congolese international is expected to undergo arthroscopy surgery to correct the injury.

“Fabrice’s scans revealed a meniscus injury and consequently he will first have to undergo arthroscopy surgery before rehabilitation. The surgeon will have to check if it is something that needs to be refilled or if it is an injury that needs to be cut and joined. After surgery that is when we will know the prognosis,” the medic revealed.

Leopards were handed a double blow after skillful winger Jaffari Owiti is also expected to miss out on the remainder of the season after suffering a nasty knee injury against Tusker in the FKF Cup quarter finals.

Ingwe, who sit third currently in the league standings on 36 points just two behind log leading Tusker, will now have to contend without the services of the midfielder who has played a crucial part in the middle of the park and the winger.

Leopards next take on Sofapaka on Wednesday in Wundanyi Stadium where the club is still pushing for a CAF Champions League spot with the participant set to be determined by the fast approaching deadline of 30th June.
