With the win, Azam set up a semifinal clash against Coastal Union

Kenyan midfield maestro Kenneth Muguna featured for his Azam side on Wednesday evening as the team steered clear of opponents Polisi Tanzania to advance to the semifinals of the Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC) 2021/2022.

In the quarter-final match staged at the Azam Complex, the ice cream makers walked home 3-0 winners as they confirmed their place in the last four of the competition that they last won in the 2018/2019 season.

Azam surged ahead in the 24th minute when Zambian attacker Rodgers Kola rose highest to head in an uncontested header that had found him in the box after an inch-perfect delivery from Charles Zulu, who beat his marker on the right before squaring the inswinger.

Just on the stroke of the halftime break, Muguna played a part in getting the team’s second goal as he kickstarted the move that ended up with Ismail ‘Kader’ Aziz rifling the back of the net with his left boot to give Azam some cushion at the break.

With thirteen minutes left on the clock in the second half, Muguna once again got his side on their way to the third goal as he overturned possession in the middle of the park before starting the attack. Prince Dube picked the ball and after a neat interchange with Yahya Zaid, Dube laid a defense splitting pass to Yahya Mudathir who finished off the lovely move with an exquisite dink that sealed the 3-0 victory.

With the win, Azam set up a semifinal clash against Coastal Union with Yanga awaiting the winners of Simba and Pamba in the other last-four clash.
