The sole fixture of the day drew the attention of fans eager to see which side could consolidate their survival bid as both teams approached the match desperate for maximum points.
Fresh from a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Kisumu All Stars, MCF carried their momentum into this contest, determined to build on their survival bid.
The Machakos-based side did not disappoint, registering a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kabati Youth to secure consecutive wins for the first time this campaign.
Goals in each half proved decisive, underlining MCF’s resilience and strategic discipline under coach Francis Chege, who celebrated his first back-to-back wins since taking over the reins following his departure from 3K FC.
MCF opened the scoring in the first half through Ondoo four minutes before the breather, asserting control and demonstrating a renewed attacking threat.
Kabati Youth fought back, maintaining pressure, but MCF’s composed play allowed them to double the advantage in the second half through Khalif Omiti, forcing the visitors into a scramble to reduce the deficit.
Kabati managed a late strike through Mac Ferran, but it proved insufficient to alter the outcome.
The victory lifts MCF to 20 points, nudging them out of the foot of the table.
While still entrenched in the relegation zone, the result offers hope for a late-season resurgence.
With a game in hand yet to be played, the side sits just seven points shy of safety, positioning them for a potential push to secure survival in the remaining fixtures.
For Kabati Youth, the defeat is a significant setback.
Once poised to create breathing room from the drop zone, the side now sits three points above the relegation line, having suffered their 14th loss of the campaign.
The timing of this setback could prove costly as the season nears its climax, leaving them with little margin for error in their bid to avoid relegation in their maiden campaign and to keep second-tier status for at least next season.
