Waithira has been one of the standout performers this season, scoring seven goals and trailing top scorer Paul Okoth by just two. If he maintains his current form in the second phase of the campaign, he is on track to record his best scoring season in Kenya’s top tier.
Unsurprisingly, his fine form has attracted attention from several top clubs. AFC Leopards, league leaders Gor Mahia, Kenya Police FC, the reigning champions, and Nairobi United, who are participating in the CAF Confederation Cup, have all shown interest and are reportedly ready to make competitive offers when the mid-season window opens.
The former Wazito FC, Sofapaka, and Bandari player acknowledged that some clubs have contacted him, while others’ interest remains speculative.
“It is true there has been contact from a number of clubs. Some have been in touch directly, while others, I hear, are interested but have not formally expressed interest, so I treat that as rumours for now,” Waithira said.
When asked about a possible move, he emphasised his commitment to Seal, stating that he is focused on performing for the club as long as he is part of the squad.
“But at the moment, I am contracted to Murang’a Seal. I am legally their player, and I cannot talk of leaving the team. The transfer talks do not distract me, I am focused on delivering my best for the club as long as I am here,” he added.
Waithira admitted that a move could happen if all parties reach an agreement, but for now, he remains loyal to the club led by Osborn Monday.
“I cannot give a definitive answer for that. If a solid offer arrives, I will have a sit-down with the club bosses and decide on the way forward.
I am not desperate to leave the club this January, but if an offer that is good for both the club and myself comes around, we will look at it and decide on the way forward.
For now, I am a Murang’a Seal player until maybe we have a new development,” he said.
Murang’a Seal currently sits ninth on the table with 28 points after 14 league matches and remains unbeaten in their last nine fixtures, highlighting the team’s strong form in the ongoing season.
