"The whole club isn't as stable this year as it was last year," said Germany boss, taking a dig at the Premier League champions
It's been more than four months since Florian Wirtz moved to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for the lavish €125 million. Initially, he was regarded as a massive reinforcement for the Reds and a key piece that would make them virtually unstoppable. However, in reality, the German is experiencing an abysmally poor start to his spell at Anfield.
He made 16 appearances this season in the Premier League, Champions League and Community Shield, and has yet to score a goal! Three assists in total in the latter two competitions and no significant contribution in the EPL are far from what was expected from the 22-year-old.
After the 3-0 defeat to Man City in a derby two days ago, Wirtz extended his goalless and assistless EPL run to 11 games, so the criticism is piling up, and so is the pressure on him.
Still, despite his awful form, the forward has a guaranteed spot in Julian Nagelsmann's Germany squad, as the tactician trusts him implicitly. The 38-year-old had already publicly supported the player, but now he made an unexpected move, blaming Liverpool for Wirtz's struggles?!
"To be honest, the overall situation doesn't make it easy for Flo either. The whole club isn't as stable this year as it was last year. It's much harder to slip into the team now."
"If you look at the game against City, [Liverpool] were actually the worse team over the 90 minutes. So it's also difficult for Flo to make a big impact," Nagelsmann said yesterday in the press conference via ESPN.

However, the strategist's rant about the Anfield crew didn't end there, as he called out Wirtz's teammates for failing to convert chances he created.
"We all need to support him a little bit so that he can clear his head here, and then maybe Liverpool could also help him out by scoring some of the chances he creates. They somehow don't like to shoot the ball in, that's also part of the truth," concluded Nagelsmann.
