Kelvin Etemesi netted twice in the duel

Nairobi City Stars picked three precious points after overcoming Vihiga Bullets 5-2 in an entertaining FKF Premier League match staged at the Kasarani Annex on Sunday afternoon.

Ahead of the game, both teams needed to bounce back from midweek defeats. City Stars went down 4-2 to Kenya Police while Bullets fell 3-0 to KCB.

Two minutes into the game, Kelvin Etemesi got the first goal of the game, slotting home after controlling a pass deep from midfield.

He made it 2-0 with a long range shot that beat keeper Ruben Nyongesa.

Three minutes later Dennis Wanjala added a third with an equally long-range attempt.

Sensing that a rout was in the offing, Bullets coach Milton Kidiga made three changes before the half hour mark.

Timonah Wantonyi, Peter Halwenge, and Derrick Terkwo were rested for James Owino, Hilary Ndombi and Rajab Kagota all defensive changes.

Simba wa Nairobi continued to run the show in search of more goals and at the back they remained vigilant.

Six minutes before the interval, captain Nicholas Masamba was brought down in the area by Clifford Ouma, a spot kick was awarded which Joseph Oyugi converted despite a strong touch from City Stars' keeper Steven Njunge.

The action packed first half ended in a 3-1 lead for Simba wa Nairobi.

Bouyed by that goal from the spot, Bullets attacked more at the start of the second half.

City Stars sensing that they could be in trouble made two changes ten minutes into the second half where, Dennis Oalo and Samuel Kapen were introduced for Mohamed Bajaber and Anthony Kimani as coach Nicholas Muyoti sought to take charge of the clash once again.

The changes appeared to work in the hosts' favour as they started to attack fluidly once again. Kapeni,Etemesi and Oalo came close to extending the lead.

New signing Vincent Owino got his third goal for his new club in the 78th minute slotting home after pouncing on a loose ball in the area for City Stars' fourth.

Kapen added a fifth in the 86th minute before Kennedy Onyango turned to the ball into his own net in stoppage for a 5-2 full-time score-line.

The win sees them leapfrog Mathare who play Nzoia later to the 15th position. Mathare drop to the playoff spot.
