Napoli slip, Inter close: stalemate in Como shifts title race

Draw leaves champions-elect one step away, while hosts see Champions League hopes fade

Style met substance, but not quite with the result to match.

Como have been one of Serie A's most compelling stories this season under Cesc Fabregas, winning admirers with an expansive, elegant approach. For a time, even a place in the UEFA Champions League felt within reach. Alas, now, that dream is fading.

A goalless draw with Napoli on Saturday in the 35th round has left both sides frustrated, but it is Inter Milan who emerge as the clear beneficiaries.

Napoli's slip has effectively cleared the path for Inter to clinch the title. With a favourable fixture to come, a single point could be enough to seal the Scudetto in front of their own supporters - an outcome that now feels inevitable rather than merely possible.

For Napoli, it was a missed opportunity. For Como, something closer to a reality check.

The hosts remain in the hunt for European football, but the margins are tightening. With Juventus and AS Roma poised to pull further clear, Como's chances of breaking into the top four are slipping away at the decisive moment of the season.

There is still plenty to play for. A debut campaign in Europe, whether in the UEFA Europa League or the UEFA Europa Conference League, remains within reach, a remarkable achievement in itself for a club that only recently returned to Italy's top tier.

On the pitch, chances were scarce. Napoli came closest to breaking the deadlock when Matteo Politano struck the crossbar late on. At the same time, Como goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic produced a series of composed saves to preserve another clean sheet. In the end, neither side found the breakthrough.

But in the wider picture, the consequences were clear: Inter move to the brink, Napoli fall away, and Como, for all their charm, are left chasing a different prize.
