The sponsorship, announced on Wednesday, 2 March, underscores the dairy processor’s long-standing commitment to nurturing young sporting talents in Kenya.

Scheduled to be played from Saturday, 5 to Sunday, 13 April in Mombasa, the championships will bring together over 3,000 student-athletes from across the country.

The games will be hosted at multiple venues, including Shimo La Tewa Boys, Shanzu Teachers College, and Aga Khan Academy. In preparation, referee clinics will be conducted from Saturday, 5 to Monday, 7 April.

Brookside Dairy’s Corporate Communications Manager, Wilson Okong’o, emphasized the company’s dedication to youth sports development during the launch event in Nairobi.

He outlined the allocation of the sponsorship, with Ksh.21.5 million designated for player kits, trophies, and certificates, while the remaining funds will cover logistics such as venue branding.

“Brookside is keen to support talent growth in the country. Through this initiative, we help unearth young sporting talents, and we will continue partnering with KSSSA to nurture them,” said Okong’o.

“With our investment, we are confident that the Brookside Term One Games will continue to provide a perfect launching pad for careers in sports by harnessing the talent of students in various disciplines.”

Brookside has been a key partner in secondary school sports since 2002, a commitment that has propelled many young athletes to professional levels both locally and internationally.

Okong’o expressed confidence that the continued investment in school sports would create a strong foundation for future sporting success.

The competition will feature several sporting disciplines, including athletics, basketball 5-on-5, hockey, cross-country, handball, rugby 15s, and swimming. Participants will be accommodated at Mama Ngina Girls High School (for girls) and Shimo la Tewa Boys (for boys).

KSSSA Secretary General David Ngugi noted that scouts will be in attendance to identify emerging talents. He reiterated that winners from the competition will earn the right to represent Kenya at the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) Games.

Nelson Sifuna, the head of the Directorate of Field Coordination and Co-Curricular Activities at the Ministry of Education, lauded Brookside for its unwavering support over the years.

He emphasized the broader impact of sports on students, highlighting its role in character building, discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills.

“Your generous sponsorship, which includes kitting players across various sporting disciplines, will go a long way in enhancing participation, boosting morale, and fostering excellence in school sports,” said Sifuna.

As part of the sponsorship, each participant will receive two pairs of playing kits, ensuring equity among all teams. The company also emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle in sports, advocating for the consumption of quality milk as a key component in athlete nutrition.
