Steve Kerr, currently in charge of the Golden State Warriors as a head coach, joins Steve Nash in this interesting piece of business

Not every day you hear the news that the former NBA player and present-day coach engages in the football business.

Yet, Steve Kerr has decided to take the road less taken and become a shareholder of La Liga club RCD Mallorca.

Kerr, who has won four NBA titles as a coach and previously five as a player, joins another NBA legend Steve Nash in being a club shareholder as a part of the American investment group that owns Mallorca.

"Welcome on board, Steve Kerr. Nine-time NBA champion joins the club as a shareholder," the club announced on social media.

Kerr, who will lead Team USA in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, said of Real Mallorca:

"I'm a friend of Andy Kohlberg (Mallorca president and majority shareholder), and we were talking this summer. He told me about the change in ownership and offered me the chance to be part of the new investment group.

"I'm really looking forward to it. I was in Mallorca last summer to watch a match, supporting the team and becoming a fan. It's a very exciting opportunity."

Kohlberg said of Kerr:

"It's a huge step forward - when he was here a year ago and spoke to the players, he made a big impact, and I loved hearing the message about the importance of being a team and the involvement of each member on the pitch and on the bench, in order to always be ready. The players loved it, and Steve enjoyed it, too."

Real Mallorca - currently 15th in the La Liga table - are next in action on the road against Granada on Saturday.

Kerr spent 15 seasons as a player in the NBA, being an important member of the legendary Chicago Bulls side that won three titles in a row (1996-1998), before repeating the same with the San Antonio Spurs two more times (1999 and 2003).

He reached the peak of coaching success with the GSW, putting four more NBA rings into his collection.
