Defensive midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, 24, signs a four-and-a-half-year contract, coming from the French giants Olympique Lyon
What seemed impossible only a couple of months ago is nothing but a reality for the Magpies - Newcastle United are attracting the attention of many formidable players across Europe who are looking forward to joining the Premier League strugglers.
After Kieran Trippier, who departed from Atletico Madrid to sign for the Geordies, Bruno Guimaraes of Olympique Lyon has agreed on a four-and-a-half-year deal with NUFC.
The 24-year-old Brazilian international spent two highly successful seasons with the French greats but has decided to move to the EPL basement slot in the January transfer window.

Newcastle United are thrilled to announce the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Olympique Lyonnais on a four-and-a-half year deal.
Bem vindo, @brunoog97!
His former side revealed the deal was worth KSh6,3 billion, plus a 20% sell-on fee. The defensive midfielder will also receive potential bonuses of KSh1,01 billion if, for example, Newcastle manage to stay in the top-flight this season.
Having arrived in January 2020 from the Brazilian outfit Curitiba club, Bruno Guimaraes played 71 matches in all competitions with OL (scoring three goals) and became a Brazilian international during his stay at Lyon. Last August in Tokyo, he also won the Olympic gold medal, starting six matches with his country.
Impressed by the Newcastle project, with its new shareholders amid the recent takeover, the midfielder wanted to join the English Premier League club. As OL emphasise, it all happens in a complex economic context for Olympique Lyonnais, marked by almost two years of COVID-19, which has hit France's big clubs, ones that have not been the subject of significant aid from the government.

"Olympique Lyonnais would like to warmly thank Bruno Guimaraes for his involvement, his determination and his professionalism since his arrival at OL two years ago. The whole club wishes him and his family all the best in Newcastle as well as with the Brazilian national team, who have already qualified for the next World Cup in Qatar, " the French club announced on Sunday afternoon.
