What could become one of the defining transfer sagas of the summer is already heating up, with Bayern Munich now facing serious rivalry in the pursuit of their preferred target. Reports from Spanish outlets Mundo Deportivo and RAC1 claim that Barcelona have also entered the race for Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United.

Barcelona are said to be prioritising reinforcements on the left flank, with the England international emerging as a leading candidate. Club decision-makers reportedly admire his profile, which blends relentless off-the-ball work, aggressive pressing, and tactical flexibility across wide and central attacking roles. Bayern are equally convinced by those qualities and have also identified Gordon as a key summer objective.

According to SPORT BILD, negotiations have already begun between Bayern and the player’s representatives, including discussions around financial terms. However, both interested clubs are running into the same major obstacle: Newcastle’s valuation of around €86 million. That figure is considered excessive in Munich and is also proving problematic for Barcelona, whose financial limitations make such an outlay difficult at present.

Gordon’s stock has risen sharply this season, earning him attention from Europe’s elite. His Champions League performances stood out in particular, where he registered ten goals and two assists in twelve appearances before Newcastle’s elimination at the hands of Barcelona.

He also made a strong impression in direct meetings, notably scoring in a 1–2 league defeat while showcasing his energy, pressing intensity, and adaptability—often operating in more central attacking positions.

Despite growing interest, a move this summer is currently viewed as unlikely. Barcelona are also monitoring Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, valued at around €100 million, which could consume the majority of their transfer budget. If that deal materialises, Gordon would effectively move out of reach for the Catalan club—potentially giving Bayern a clearer path in the background.
