Nice-Brest derby has a strange prelude as a home boss admits something 'disturbed his sleep'

Francesco Farioli claims that Nice's pitch is ruined after the recent Rugby World Cup, which could affect his side's ambition to reach the Ligue 1 summit

Surprisingly enough, Nice and Brest have started the new Ligue 1 campaign impeccably, so their Sunday clash represents a true derby that could potentially present us with the new table-topper.

Whoever wins the tie will reach the top of the log, and even with a draw, Brest would stay with Monaco in the first place.

However, this intriguing tie has got a strange prelude, as Nice's manager, Francesco Farioli, has lamented the state of the Allianz Riviera pitch after the stadium hosted four Rugby World Cup games in the space of a little over a week.

Those matches have done considerable damage to the pitch, and it has meant that Nice haven't featured at home for a month.

"It is something that disturbed my sleep. We had a perfect pitch, surely one of the best in Ligue 1. After seeing pictures of the pitch today, I'd say it's not in an acceptable state. It's not respectful to the supporters. Having a good pitch is important to play our game and to avoid injuries to our players. It's everyone's responsibility that after the match, the pitch is changed to lay down a hybrid pitch," said Farioli in a press conference.

Nice will also be celebrating the stadium's 10-year anniversary during the game.
