Katasi became the second prominent player to leave AFC Leopards for K'Ogalo in less than a year, following defender Lewis Bandi's switch last August
AFC Leopards Secretary General Isaac Mulindi has played down concerns over the club's recent player departures, insisting Ingwe will not stand in the way of any footballer who no longer wants to represent the club.
His remarks come days after first-choice goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi completed a surprise move to bitter rivals, Gor Mahia, after negotiations over a new contract failed.
Katasi became the second prominent player to leave AFC Leopards for K'Ogalo in less than a year, following defender Lewis Bandi's switch last August.
Bandi, however, has struggled to cement a regular place in Gor Mahia's squad since making the move.
Addressing growing concerns among supporters over player exits, Mulindi urged fans to remain calm, saying the club's focus is on retaining players fully committed to its cause.
“Let’s stop infighting and allow us to do our work smoothly. I don’t know why we should make noise or panic about player exits. Let those players who want to leave do so, and those who are ready to play for the badge will remain. Life will continue,” he is quoted by Citizen Digital.
“We want to have only those players who have Leopards at heart.”
Mulindi expressed confidence that the current leadership, led by chairman Boniface Ambani, can build on last season's second-place finish and finally guide the club back to the FKF Premier League title.
He said AFC Leopards has repeatedly overcome the loss of influential players throughout its history and believes the latest departures will not derail the club's ambitions.
“AFC Leopards had top players like J.J Masiga and Mulamba (Wilberforce) but they left, and the club kept moving on.
We have taken over as the office and managed to push the club to finish in second place last season. We are not satisfied, so we are very confident of a first-place finish next season,” he added.
Mulindi also appealed to supporters to rally behind the club's new leadership instead of dwelling on transfer departures, maintaining that unity will be key to restoring AFC Leopards to the summit of Kenyan football.
“Don’t panic or be under any sort of pressure. When a child goes astray, you correct him, and he becomes a better child. This is our club and let’s make AFC Leopards much better than how we found it.”
