The winger's public whining and Ten Hag's lack of tact led to a world-class talent becoming dead weight
Jadon Sancho is facing an uphill battle to regain the support of both his Manchester United teammates and manager Erik Ten Hag following his public outburst against the Dutchman, according to a source cited by ESPN. After being dropped from the squad for the Premier League loss to Arsenal, the former Borussia Dortmund winger made the worst decision of his career - to whine.
After Ten Hag cited unsatisfactory training performances for Sancho's omission, the 23-year-old responded with a strongly worded social media post, refuting the claims and labelling himself a "scapegoat for a long time."
However, insiders suggest there is little sympathy for Sancho within the United dressing room, with one source stating, "the players have had enough of him".
Sancho's struggles, both on the training ground and during matches, along with his attitude within the club, have made him a marginal figure since his $91 million transfer from BVB. Ten Hag and his coaching staff have reportedly grown frustrated with the former Manchester City youth player.
Despite Sancho's immediate response on social media, Ten Hag hasn't felt compelled to clarify or soften his initial comments. The former Ajax coach has previously criticized the conduct of players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford, and sources say that the squad respects his consistent approach regardless of a player's status. Sancho's reaction, while not surprising, has not been well-received within the dressing room.
Sources indicate that Sancho and Ten Hag are scheduled to hold discussions before United's game against Brighton on 16 September to determine the forward's future. United had preliminary talks with Saudi Pro League team Al-Ettifaq about a potential loan move, but a deal didn't materialize before the transfer window closed. As a result, Ten Hag must decide whether Sancho will remain part of the squad for the first half of the season.
However, Sancho is not the only one who's done wrong in this case. Manchester United were reportedly not permitted to publicly disclose their player's struggle with mental health issues last season.

In December 2022, Ten Hag made a statement during a press conference and revealed that Sancho would be unavailable for some time due to a combination of physical and mental factors as the player dealt with an injury. Sancho then underwent training sessions alone in the Netherlands with coaches who he trusted. However, Daily Mail claims United's head coach never got permission to publicly speak about his player's mental health. The relationship is looking strained and complicated.
Since joining United in 2021 on a five-year contract, Sancho has scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 82 first-team appearances. In his final season at Dortmund, he scored 16 goals and contributed 20 assists in 38 matches across all competitions.
