German manager advises his compatriot to focus on what's coming and to leave the past behind

If you Google 'Werner miss vs', a dropdown menu of almost ten football teams will be offered for you to chose. A funny way to look at German forward's final-shot success rate. After last night's first leg of Champions League semi-finals, you can add one more team to the list - Real Madrid.

Thomas Tuchel urged Werner to forget his latest miss - a miss that could have produced a totally different situation after the first semi-finals game. Chelsea could have had a win away from Madrid, not just a goal away.

German manager thinks that it was not only Werner but the whole team who were wasteful with the chances to up the advantage before the Stamford Bridge rematch.

Goals by Christian Pulisic and Karim Benzema gave us a marvelous first half but the game then watered down as a result of tactical showdown between two managers in the second half.

Timo Werner, as we pretty much got used to, failed to score from a colossal chance. But Tuchel refuses to dwell on his compatriots missed opportunities and tell Werner to do the same.

'He missed a big one in West Ham now he missed another big one here.

'That does not help, but it also does not help to cry about it or to regret it all the time.

'It is like this. There are millions of people who have harder things to deal with than chances that you miss, so this is the good thing about sports – nobody cares tomorrow.

'Today we were sad, we were angry in the moment, this is normal. He is angry. He is maybe disappointed.

'Tomorrow he has a free day and the next day he has to put his chin up. He is a professional guy, a top guy, he works hard.

'He is in positions and from there, on we go. We will never stop pushing, we will never stop believing and I have the feeling that everybody accepts the situation like it is and as a striker it is easy, you score the next game and nobody speaks about it.'

With Real Madrid being considered favourites before the tie, Blues proved they are a much bigger factor in European football than everyone thinks.

Tuchel's detailed approach and intensity tightened up the defensive line of Chelsea and with that the midfield seems more confident. All that needs to be sorted is the situation in the attacking third.

'We played a very strong first-half, we should have won the first half.

'Unfortunately we were a bit unlucky and lacked composure and decision making in the opponent's box.

'Maybe we could have decided this match very, very early in the first half an hour when we were playing so, so strong.

'Next week we have to face another challenge against Real Madrid, it will be another tough one because it is the Champions League semi final, nothing is sure.

'It is half time and we need to fight for every centimetre and advantage that we want to have, we need to fight and to deserve it.

'We only had two days in between two away games. Those games were every demanding physically and mentally so you could feel that in the decision making and some ball losses and acceleration.

'One more day would have been great for us. Now is the challenge to enjoy a free day then forget this result.

'We suffered physically. We defend together as a team. The strikers have their job. We defend as a block as 11 people.

'I don't feel that we are pointing fingers. The strikers are the first guys who want to score and be decisive and to do it for themselves.'

Chelsea are hosting Real Madrid on the 5th of May and the Blues have more than enough time to analyze last night's game and to try and reenact the first 20 minutes of the first half at Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

Utilizing more attacking options through Olivier Giroud, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi might help the Blues in keeping up with the high intensity football they want to impose on Los Blancos.

On the other end, Zinedine Zidane's side have the experience. Even though they seemed confused in the opening part of the game last night, they slowly found their rhythm and with footballing masters like Benzema, Casemiro, Modric, Kross - it makes no sense writing still reigning Spanish champions off.

In the final, winner of this tie will meet either PSG or Manchester City, which play their first semi final match tonight.
