Qualifying for the World Cup should be a piece of cake for the squad packed with such superb players. Moldova was on the receiving end this time (4-0)

It's about time Norway steps up to the highest stage, as their national team is stacked with sensational players in their attacking line.

The names of Martin Odegaard, Erling Haaland, and Alexander Sorloth are intimidating for a reason. And Moldova got the taste of it on Saturday night, as the Norwegian mighty machine ran over them 5-0 in the opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Haaland and Sorloth put their name on the scoresheet early on, as the visitors struck four times before the break to kill the tie. Arsenal's playmaker, Odegaard, didn't score a goal, but his presence was quintessential as he operated in the midfield superbly, assisting Sorloth for that one, Norway's fourth of the game.

Borussia Dortmund's full-back Julian Ryerson joined the cavalry, as he opened the scoring after just five minutes and later helped Donnum with the assist for the fifth and the last goal of the game.

Despite this ruthless display, Moldova should not be considered a proper rival for Norway. The crucial head-to-head battle will be held between Odegaard's side and the loser of the Nations League clash between Italy and Germany. Whoever tops that group - which is also comprised of Estonia and Israel - will go straight to the World Cup, while the runners-up will be awarded a place in the playoffs.
