Not even reinvented Leao is enough for Rossonerri to beat Atalanta

Rafael Leao had not found the net for AC Milan in Serie A for five long months, with his last goal dating back to September 23 against Hellas Verona. However, he ended that drought on Sunday night in style with a fantastic solo effort against Atalanta and, yet, it was not enough for the win.

The Portuguese forward went for a solo run down the left flank, nutmegging one and chipping it over the other before firing it superbly into the far top corner from a tricky angle for a 1-0 lead.

Still, it was not enough to secure the win, as the visitors responded from the spot. Giroud wanted to clear the ball following the corner but missed the ball and accidentally hit Holm in the chest. The VAR review persuaded the referee Orsato to give Atalanta a penalty, and Koopmeiners managed to place it behind Maignan for a stalemate, 1-1.

Although the home team had plenty of time left on the clock to restore the lead and, thus, clinch the victory, a visible lack of ideas and attacking patterns left Stefano Pioli's side without two vital points. Now, 13 points adrift of the table toppers and their city rivals, Inter Milan, who even have a game in hand, the Rossonerri title hopes have certainly vanished.
