Not long ago, only sky was limit for City - now even Champions League is out of sight

This Manchester City's rollercoaster has seen them reach the unprecedented heights less than two years ago, but at this point - it's inches away from hitting a rock bottom.

Pep Guardiola's team is out of Champions League places after a disappointing 2-2 home draw against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday night. The Cityzens failed to clinch a victory despite being twice in front, thus jeopardizing even the fifth position, as Newcastle United could leapfrog them soon as they have a game in hand and just a point less than the Skyblues.

The depth of City's crisis is so serious that no one at Etihad was confident of the victory despite Erling Haaland's opener from the spot. And they were right for not believing in the hosts.

Haaland has become the first player in Premier League history to reach 100 goal involvements in fewer than 100 games (94). That didn't impress the Seagulls too much, though, who bounced back even before the break.

Pervis Estupinan fancied his chances from a 22-yard out free kick and curled it off the post as Stefan Ortega - who replaced Ederson - couldn't get his hands on it.

The defending champion restored the lead through Omar Marmoush, as the visitors lost the ball in midfield, and Ilkay Gundogan assisted Marmoush. His effort was brilliant as the ball went into the back of the net.

He who hoped Manchester City had made a breakthrough at that point made a false prediction.

After the break, the home side couldn't find the necessary composure and balance, while the Seagulls grabbed a deserved draw thanks to an own goal. Jack Hinshelwood made the most of Adam Webster's pass, but his effort was going wide. Thankfully for Brighton, Abdukodir Khusanov was in the way of the ball, and he accidentally tapped it into his own net.

Things are looking deplorable for Pep and his army, deprived of hope and joy, as they could end up in the Europa League or even the Conference League if the rollercoaster continues its way down.
