Mozzart Sport understands that former Thika Cloth Mills tactician Bilal Haji has been appointed on an interim basis, with sources indicating he has three games to steady the ship.
Mungai’s departure ends a five-year association with the club, a period in which he oversaw a remarkable rise through the ranks.
Under his watch, Kabati clinched the 2022/23 FKF Division Two title, earning promotion to Division One, and later sealed yet another promotion to the NSL after topping the third tier last season.
However, the dream start to life in the NSL has failed to materialise as Kabati sit second from bottom on the 20-team log with just one point from four matches.
Their campaign began on a promising note, drawing 1-1 with Vihiga United at Thika Stadium in front of a vibrant home crowd.
Since then, the Bees have struggled, losing 3-1 to Equity Bank FC, 1-0 to Nairobi City Stars, and 2-1 to Luanda Villa at Mumboha Stadium, a defeat that ultimately sealed Mungai’s fate.
Kabati will hope for a turnaround when they host Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) at Thika Stadium on Thursday as they chase their first win of the season.
Despite their on-field struggles, Kabati have maintained an impressive following.
The Murang'a county-based side is among the few NSL clubs known for drawing organic crowds, having already amassed over Ksh300,000 in gate collections from just two home games.
Mwatate United
Meanwhile, Mwatate United have restructured their technical bench, appointing Evans Mafuta as head coach.
Martin Mutembei and Zabby Mwale will serve as first and second assistant coaches, respectively, while Ali Ochieng joins as fitness trainer and Francis Odemba as goalkeepers’ coach.
