Kapansa struck twice in Equity’s 3–1 victory over Kabati Youth at Vapor Grounds in Ngong on Sunday, 5 October.
Omar Kipngetich scored the other goal for the Bankers, while former Bidco United winger Kelvin Mwaura netted the consolation for Kabati.
For Kapansa, the performance was more than just a contribution to the team’s maiden win, he says, it was a personal milestone in his budding professional career.
"The football environment here in Kenya and in Zambia isn’t too different,” Kapansa told Mozzart Sport.
"In Zambia, the league is fast-paced and physical, and that’s also what I’m finding in the NSL. It hasn’t been a shock for me, and that’s why adapting here was easier.”
The winger, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology at USIU-Africa, joined Equity at the start of September after the club secured promotion to the second tier.
Unlike many new NSL recruits who arrive from established clubs or top-tier sides, Kapansa made the leap straight from the USIU varsity team, which is coached by former AFC Leopards tactician Tom Juma.
He made his NSL debut as a second-half substitute in Equity’s season opener against Luanda Villa on 28 September at Mumboha Stadium.
Last weekend, in only his second appearance, and first full start, he scored twice, moving him to joint-second on the league’s top scorers’ chart alongside Syphas Otieno and Laban Otieno.
"The NSL is a good start for my career,” Kapansa explained.
"I wanted more playing time and felt that joining Equity would give me that opportunity and the exposure I need. I didn’t want to put myself under too much pressure at this early stage.”
The former Mc Galaxy Academy playmaker revealed that he had offers from top-tier clubs during the last transfer window but opted for the second division to focus on development and regular minutes on the pitch.
Kapansa dedicated his first career brace to the people who have supported him along the way.
"I want to thank God, my family, and friends who have been with me on this journey,” he said.
“I worked hard during pre-season for moments like this. Scoring those two goals is a great start and shows I’m on the right track toward achieving my personal targets. I just want to keep helping the team get results.”
