Promotion hopefuls Equity FC suffered a costly setback in their pursuit of a historic FKF Premier League berth after being held to a 1-1 draw

Sunday’s National Super League action delivered a compelling blend of drama and significance, as pivotal shifts unfolded both at the end of the standings and within the relegation dogfight.

Following Mombasa United’s stumble on Saturday, Migori Youth seized the moment with authority, reclaiming the summit in determined fashion.

Meanwhile, at the opposite end of the table, Kisumu All Stars reignited their survival hopes with a crucial victory on home soil.

At Awendo Green Stadium, Migori Youth rose to the occasion with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Naivas United.

The encounter, played in testing weather, demanded resilience and composure, qualities the hosts demonstrated in abundance.

Despite Churchill Otieno’s missed penalty, Geoffrey Odira’s first-half strike ultimately proved decisive, sealing maximum points for the Migori-based outfit.

The victory saw head coach Sammy Otulo’s charges climb back to the top of the standings on 58 points, level with Mombasa United but ahead on superior goal difference.

It was a statement of intent from a side clearly unwilling to relinquish control at such a critical juncture of the campaign.

For Naivas United, however, the defeat dealt a severe blow to their promotion ambitions.

The dropped points leave the retail-backed side languishing 12 points adrift of the playoff positions, rendering their push for top-flight football increasingly improbable.

In Kisumu, the battle for survival took center stage at Kenyatta Stadium, where Kisumu All Stars capitalized on home advantage to edge past Nairobi City Stars with a narrow 1-0 win.

Abner Aweyo’s first-half effort was enough to separate the two sides, handing the hosts a lifeline in their fight against relegation.

The result lifts the Mozzart Bet-backed Kisumu All Stars to 30 points, opening up a crucial three-point cushion above the danger zone.

It was a performance defined by urgency and hallmarks of a team determined to preserve its league status.

Conversely, Nairobi City Stars’ struggles deepened, as they slumped to a second consecutive defeat.

Their winless run now stretches to five matches, a slump that has effectively extinguished any lingering hopes of an immediate return to the top flight.

Sitting 19 points behind the promotion places, their focus now shifts to rebuilding rather than resurgence.

Elsewhere, promotion hopefuls Equity FC suffered a costly setback in their pursuit of a historic FKF Premier League berth.

Held to a 1-1 draw by Gucha Stars at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School, the bankers dropped two vital points in a match they were expected to control.

The result leaves John Kamara Mbweza’s side on 53 points, now five adrift of the summit, a gap that could prove decisive in the tightly contested race.

For Gucha Stars, the draw marked a welcome halt to a three-match losing streak, lifting them to 33 points and six clear of the relegation zone.

In Eldoret, Nzoia Sugar FC exacted revenge on Soy United with a narrow 1-0 victory at the Showground.

Nelson Kadenge’s first-half strike proved the difference, as Nzoia overturned their earlier 2-0 home defeat to Soy in the reverse fixture.

The win sees Nzoia climb to 11th position on 39 points, level with Soy United, further tightening the mid-table standings.

At Mumboha Grounds, the bottom-of-the-table clash between Vihiga United and Mully Children Family (MCF) ended in a goalless stalemate, an outcome that did little to aid either side’s survival ambitions.

The two teams remain rooted at the foot of the table with 20 and 21 points respectively, with their quest to safety growing increasingly narrow with each passing fixture.
