Muhoroni Youth will face: Nairobi City Stars(H), Shabana(H), Muranga Seal(A), Bidco United(H), Ulinzi Stars(A) in their next five league fixtures
The relegation battle is on.
With 10 games remaining in the FKF Premier League, just 10 points separate Kariobangi Sharks in 12th position with 27 points and Nzoia United in 18th position with 17 points with the former just 5 points above Muhoroni Youth who are 16th.
Any of the 7 teams that are below 30 points can be relegated, a pack that also includes FC Talanta, Ulinzi Stars, Sofapaka, and Shabana.
Muhoroni Youth team manager Moses Nyalik believes his team is ready to beat all the odds and win the war against relegation.
“The break came at the wrong time for us as we were picking momentum having picked a point from our last match away to Police but we are well prepared for the season starting this Saturday when we welcome City Stars at home.”
Nyalik attributed Muhoroni’s struggles to the exodus of key players' transfer window.
“We are always building a team every transfer window as key players leave for top teams which makes it difficult to compete”.
In recent times the magic number of points seems to be 35 points for a team to be safe.
Last season, Nairobi City Stars finished with 34 points, 5 points above Muhoroni Youth who had to fight it out with Migori Youth from the NSL in the playoffs.
In the 2021/2022 season that was later annulled by the courts, Bidco United at 15th place had 36 points while in the 2020/2021 season Mathare United at 30 points finished 15th.
“We are taking one game at a time beginning with this Sunday’s game then the next one again at home against Shabana. I believe if we get maximum points from them, we will be out of the relegation zone and build from there”, said Nyalik on the team’s strategy.
Muhoroni Youth fans and the stadium have come under criticism in recent years for the violence that some teams have undergone there but the team manager says they have carried out sensitization and also banned those who cause violence from the stadium.
“We have done much to improve the situation. We welcome City Stars and just like other teams, we assure them and their fans of their safety”.
Nyalik also called on the team’s faithful to rally behind the team as they fight relegation.
