Nyangweso has heaped praise on his players after beating Sharks
Ulinzi Stars head coach Benjamin Nyangweso is satisfied with his player's performance in the 2-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday at the Narok County Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
First-half goals from Masita Masuta and Clinton Omondi helped the military outfit put the title hopefuls to the sword in a match that was largely balanced. It was Ulinzi’s first win after four matches without a triumph. It was also the team’s first match since the league resumed after sitting out on week one.
In an interview, Nyangweso was full of praise for his players. He also admitted that one extra week of preparation helped his side ready themselves for the game against Sharks. He predicted better fortunes for the team if they keep playing as they did in Narok.
“I want to thank the players for the way they played today, they gave their best. We started the first leg poorly, and it is good that we have started our second leg with a win. I think the one extra week that we had in training helped us get fitter and it helped me prepare the team well. If we keep playing as we did against Sharks I think we will perform well. This win is important because it brings confidence into the team and my prayer is that we continue picking wins,” he said.
Nyangweso was also elated by the fact that two of his attackers found the back of the net. He added that the effort they have been putting in training paid off and he hopes they continue to score in future assignments.
“We had an issue with scoring in the first leg, we were creating chances but that scoring touch is what we lacked, it has been an issue of concern for me and we had to put more time on our finishing in training and everyone was serious about it in training and I am happy that we got two goals from our forwards. This is a big motivation to the two players; Aguero (Clinton Omondi) has scored his first since we signed him and Masita too got one which is a good thing. This gives them confidence heading to our next assignments, I hope they continue to score,” he added.

Ulinzi skipper James Saruni was inspirational between the posts against Sharks where he denied the visitors on several occasions. He pulled a couple of saves and Nyangweso reserved some praise for his number one custodian.
“Saruni has been a good keeper over the years, in the first leg he kept many clean sheets and again Sharks he equally played well, he kept us in the game by pulling many saves. He deserves to be our first-choice keeper and I have no doubt that he can also be the first-choice keeper for the national team. He won us the game,” he concluded.
Ulinzi is currently ninth in the table with 21 points after 17 rounds of league matches. Next for them is a match against Nzoia Sugar FC.
