The side was winless in their first five matches of the WPL first leg

Oserain Ladies head coach Hudson Odari believes the team’s recent good form in the Women Premier League (WPL) is an indicator that the side will avoid relegation this season, despite a poor run in the first leg.

Odari’s charges shocked Kisumu Allstarlets 1-0 in their weekend match at Naivasha, thanks to a Esther Kwamboka goal in the 86th minute. The win over Kisumu was Oserian’s first on the pitch seeing that their first maximum points came courtesy of a walkover handed by Eldoret Falcons.

“I am happy that the team is picking up and the girls are playing with renewed energy. It did not matter the opponent were the favourites but the girls fought to the last minute. We missed several chances but I am glad we converted one as missing maximum points after fighting that hard would have been unfortunate,” said Odari.

The side was winless in their first five matches of the first leg with their big break coming in their sixth match when they played for a one-all draw at home against Trans Nzoia Falcons. The side then landed a walkover that took them to four points ahead of the mid-season break.

Odari made good use of the break and the transfer window to get his house in order, having lost some key players ahead of the 2021 season including Harambee Starlets captain Dorcas Shikobe. He brought in Nancy Awuor from Kisumu and Erica Isabella from division one side Bomet Starlets as well as Agnes Muli, Prisca Kahendi, Lilian Kamene, Delphine Kayondi, Evarline Nzau and Venic Rabera.

In the weekend match against Kisumu, Odari deployed new signings Nzau and Rabera, with the rest of the new signings yet to make their debut for the Naivasha-based side.

“We are on an upward movement since the last two matches of the first leg. We had a slow start but teams should not expect easy points against Oserain going forward. With this performance, I am certain we will avoid relegation,” added Odari whose next test is against Vihiga Queens in Naivasha.
