Sempala exited Tusker on Tuesday after running his contract down.

Tusker midfielder Faraj Odenyi had vowed to perfectly fit in the void left by Ugandan import Hashim Sempala who parted ways with the club on Tuesday following the expiry of his contract. Faraj had been seen lean playing time thanks to the competition from the league winning Sempala who was coach Robert Matano’s preferred choice in shielding the defence.

Faraj who can also be used as an attacking midfielder has revealed that he is ready to prove to the technical bench that he is equal to the task and that the club should not break the bank to sign Sempala’s replacement.

The former Chemelil Sugar midfielder said he had learnt from the departing Ugandan who is rumored to be headed to the Zambian Super League and promised to repay playing time with excellent show in the remaining six rounds.

Given the chance, I will prove to the management that they don’t need to bring an experienced defensive midfielder. I am ready to fill Sempala’s shoes should the coach consider me for playing time. It is an opportunity I have been waiting for and I am glad to capitalize on it and prove something to the bench and help the team win matches,” he said.

Besides taking up the role held by the former Gor midfielder, Faraj said he braced up to play a role in helping the club win all the six rounds and deliver the league title. Tusker who last won the league in 2016 sit at the top with 55 points, one ahead of second placed KCB.

“For us to win the league, we have to win all our remaining matches. One of the reason behind our good run this season has been that every player in the camp wants to play a role in the title chase. It will be a good feeling to help the club win its first major title since 2016,” added the midfielder who was part of the U23 provisional squad for the ongoing CECAFA U23 tournament.
