Oscar Adam is yet to find the back of the net in a competitive game for Kakamega Homeboyz
Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo has backed forward Oscar Adam Paul to prove his doubters wrong after the Tanzanian import endured a rocky start to life at the club and the Kenyan top flight.
Paul joined Homeboyz in July from Tanzanian Premier League side Prisons FC, but he is yet to open his goal account at the club, unlike other forwards.
His move to Homeboyz saw him reunite with Odhiambo, whom he worked with at prisons between January 2022 and January this year.
Paul hasn't seen regular game time since setting foot in Kakamega, as Odhiambo has been preferring Kenyan international Moses Shumah to lead the attacking line, with Ugandan Davis Kasirye offering options.
Shumah leads the scorer's chart at the club with five goals, while Kasirye, a former Sofapaka forward who joined the club before the season began as a free agent, has a goal thus far.
Despite the limited appearances, Odhiambo believes that Paul will be an asset for the club once he settles in fully.
"I have confidence having worked with him before. I have seen him score goals, and I am sure he will do so in the Kenyan league. He might have struggled to kick in, but I am sure he will be a goal machine when he adapts to the demands of the league," said Odhiambo.
The former Gor Mahia assistant coach suggested patience for the former Tanzania U23 attacker, who managed minutes in Homeboyz' barren draw against Al Hilal Bengazhi in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round and a couple of second-half appearances in league matches.
"We have to be patient with him just the way we have been with the Kenyan players. I have 30 players at the camp who cannot play all at the same time. I have been rotating the team in order to give each player a fair chance and get results. Paul's time is coming," he assured.
Homeboyz are expected to play Ulinzi Stars this weekend at the Lang'ata Sports Complex.
