Even though the Cityzens weren't among the favourites to sign the ex-Crystal Palace captain, they won another "transfer battle"
Marc Guehi's name was among the most mentioned in sports media during the June Transfer Window and the following months. Alongside the England international, the press mentioned Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich... But never Manchester City.
And yet, the Cityzens triumphed in another "transfer battle" and signed the former Crystal Palace captain, making him Pep Guardiola's new defensive pillar.

For the first time, Guehi's name was linked to City in mid-December, and even then, those rumours were quiet and shy. A month later, he's been unveiled at Etihad, while the entire deal was completed in secret and without public involvement. That's how serious a club like the Cityzens does business.
Guehi signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with his new club, arriving for a bargain price of only €23 million. On the one hand, City could wait until June and try to bring the defender as a free agent, but the competition for his signature would then be much fiercer.
This way, they paid what was necessary, signing their 14th reinforcement since January 1, 2015, with a total expenditure of €478 million!
Still, Guardiola got a high-quality, experienced, and fully developed 26-year-old player and England international, who knows how to lead the team, perform at a top level, play finals, and win trophies. In a situation where the Cityzens will be without the sidelined Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol for some time, Guehi arrived at the perfect moment, "like a balm to the wound".
