Ex Gor Mahia defender hailed by Kenyan great for his humility.

Kenya's football legend Dennis Oliech has tipped his hat off for Harambee Stars defender Joash ‘Berlin Wall’ Onyango as the second most disciplined player he has ever met after Musa Otieno.

Oliech who's disciplinary issues elicited national debates hailed the Simba Sc center half as a model to behold.

In an interview with Mozzart Sport, the Harambee Stars top scorer revealed that in his entire footballing career, he has only met two individuals who do not focus on anything else apart from their professionalism in the sport. His former Gor Mahia teammate Onyango happens to be one of them, with the other one being a retired legend in Musa Otieno.

“In my entire footballing career I have met only two athletes with the utmost professionalism in the sport. One of them was Musa Otieno and the other one is Joash Onyango. Most of the time footballers love to focus on a lot of other things besides the sport but not those two. They do not do anything that will make them lose focus on their career. I was not like that. I salute their professionalism,” Oliech remarked.

Since making his move to Tanzania in 2020, the former Gor man has earned raving reviews across the globe, performances that culminated in the defender being named as Simba’s March player of the month after fending off opposition from goalkeeper Aishi Manula and Mozambique midfielder Luis Muquisonnne.

Prior to that, Joash had also been named in the CAF Champions League team of the week in match day 2 when Simba upstaged Al Ahly 1-0 before going on to help Wekundu wa Msimbazi concede just two goals in the entire group stage phase as they finished in first place.

Currently, Onyango, who is said to have attracted interest from South African giants Orlando Pirates, is reportedly said to be worthy of a Ksh. 100 million transfer fee according to Simba’s communications officer Haji Manara. Probably, all of this is just down to one thing – his professionalism.
