Olunga bags Champions League hat-trick in seven goal thriller

Olunga is now the top scorer in the AFC Champions League with four goals.

Kenyan international Michael Olunga bagged a hat-trick in a seven thriller as Al Duhail emerged 4-3 victors against Iranian champions Esteghlal.

Duhail endured a torrid start to the AFC Champions League clash as they fell behind to an Amir Motahari goal in the fourth minute.

The former Qatari champions however did not stay behind for long as Olunga pulled Duhail level six minutes later to continue his hot streak in the tournament.

Olunga who was fresh from opening his Champions League account in the 1-1 draw against Al Ahli Jeddah doubled Duhail’s lead in the 24th minute.

Esteghlal proved tricky customers as they restored parity in the 34th minute through Cheick Diabate.

The whirlwind first half was not complete as Abdullah Abdulsalam put Duhail in the driving seat in the tie, two minutes before the half time break.

The second half was a huge contrast to the first half with fans watching the game on their screens having to wait till the 74th minute for the first closing stanza goal as Farshid Esmaeili made it 3-3.

Olunga capped his fine display in the game by completing his hat-trick five minutes from time as he ensured Duhail walked away with three points.

The goals now mean that Olunga has scored 10 goals in the last nine games and is currently the top scorer in the tournament.
