Kenyan forwards suffered mixed fortunes on Thursday night.

Kenyan international Michael Olunga was conspicuously missing in action as his Al Duhail side suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Al-Taawon while his compatriot Eric Kapaito was a second-half substitute for Arba Minch City.

Michael Olunga

The Qatar Stars League (QSL) and last season’s Champions League top scorer Michael Olunga missed the matchday squad altogether as Al Duhail went down 2-1 to Saudi side Al-Taawon in the AFC Champions League.

The former Gor Mahia forward was seen in the last training session before the club kick-started their Champions League campaign but missed the game with the club failing to provide a statement on his whereabouts.

Under the tutelage of their newly installed head coach Hernán Crespo who was taking charge of his first game, Duhail posted a bright start as they took only seven minutes to open the scoring through Edmilson Junior.

Al-Tawoon responded almost immediately as they drew level four minutes later through Cameroonian forward Leandre Tawamba as both teams went into the halftime break locked in a 1-1 draw.

With four minutes left on the clock, Al-Tawoon sealed the winner through Alvaro Medran to break the hearts of Duhail who commence their Champions League campaign with a defeat.

Erick Kapaito

The former Kariobangi Sharks forward was a second-half substitute as his Arba Minch City side beat Addis Ababa Ketema 2-1 in the Ethiopian Premier League.

Tsegaye Abera opened the scoring for Arba Minch in the 24th minute with Addis Ababa Ketema returning strong in the second half to draw level in the 57th minute through Richmond Adongo.

Arba Minch sealed the winner four minutes after the hour mark through that man again Tsegaye Abera who sealed his brace and three points for his side as Kapaito was introduced in the 69th minute in place of Tekalign Dejene.
