Twenty-two thousand police officers and gendarmes were on the streets of France after the Champions League game
On the day of the Champions League final in Budapest one thing was 100% sure – there will be riots in Paris, no matter the score. The recent history shows it, the troubles in French capital are a certain thing. And the French police was prepared: Twenty-two thousand police officers and gendarmes, including 8,000 for Paris and its surrounding area was on the streets. And still, the result after a PSG win was still horrible: one dead, 277 people were arrested in Paris (195 adults and 82 minors) and 780 arrests and 457 detentions across all France! This represents an increase compared to last year, following PSG's first Champions League victory, which resulted in 592 arrests, 491 of them in Paris. This therefore represents a 32% increase.
As expected, the football games and competitions are excellent opportunity for massive gathering which can result in violence. For example, a car crashed into a cafe terrace, injuring two people—one critically and one with less serious injuries. The driver lost control of the vehicle and passengers had previously fired mortar rounds at the police. A police source also told RMC Sports that a night-shift officer from the anti-crime brigade was hit by a car and that the vehicle fled the scene.
"We don't want to see this anymore, it's over, we're fed up, it's finished" said President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the PSG players on Sunday.

This event was used for looting too. Theft, vandalism and disturbing the public order, as well as attacking police officers were the most common reasons for arrests. Around 20,000 people gathered on the Champs-Elysees, where police worked to contain the crowd.
