The Naivasha-based club is facing relegation from the top tier after a five-match winless streak

Women Premier League (WPL) side Oserian Ladies host Trans Nzoia Falcons at their Naivasha grounds on Saturday, February 6, as they chase a first win in the league now entering its sixth round.

The Hudson Odari-coached side are fighting a relegation battle in the eight-team zone B league and a win will put them in a better position to fight their way out of the relegation zone that also has Eldoret Falcons who are yet to register a win.

Their opponent for the day, Trans Nzoia, are fighting for top place as they are trailing zone leaders Vihiga Queens, who top the league at 13 points from four wins and one draw, by one point.

“My players are ready and, despite the five-match loss, they are in high spirits for the match. Our win against Bomet Starlets in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup gave us momentum and we will build on it in this match. A win against Trans Nzoia will also put us in a good position to pick another win against our next opponents Eldoret Falcons which will help us move from the relegation zone,” said Odari.

Ahead of the 2021 season, Oserian lost more than ten players including Harambee Starlets’ captain Dorcas Shikobe who decamped to Thika Queens. This, the coach says, has affected their performance as they did not have time to recruit and are now running the league with a tight squad.

“Most of the players were employees at the flower farms and their closure due to Covid-19 forced these players to relocate to different places in search of greener pastures. While some chose to stop playing altogether, others joined the lower leagues that are less demanding. Before the second leg of the league we will have to sign about six or seven players if we are to regain our previous status and form,” added Odari.

His opposite number, Chris Amwayi says that playing away to Oserian will not be a walk in the park but exuded confidence in picking maximum points.
