Jose Mourinho's team beat nine-men Neapolitans in the capital

Victor Osimhen made the news early on Saturday as he signed a new and improved contract with his club. However, he was on the news in the evening as well - because he earned himself a sending-off when he was expected to deliver goals.

Late goals from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Romelu Lukaku gave AS Roma a 2-0 win over reigning champions Napoli, who endured arguably their worst week of 2023. After shamefully losing 4-0 to Frosinone in the Coppa Italia, they had two players sent off when pitted against Jose Mourinho's Giallorossi.

The match began with both sides displaying offensive intent. The game's intensity increased rapidly when a series of yellow cards were shown to players from both teams. Referee Andrea Colombo also issued cards to the coaches Mourinho and Walter Mazzarri.

Roma opened the scoring in the 76th minute when Pellegrini found space inside the box to capitalize on a pass from Stephan El Shaarawy, confidently sending the ball into the top right corner.

The situation worsened for Napoli in the 66th minute as Matteo Politano received a red card for a reckless challenge. Following that, Osimhen was sent off in the 86th minute after picking up his second yellow card.

The match was characterized by several bookings and penalty appeals. Despite strong appeals for a penalty, the referee waved away the claims, keeping the game flowing.

Lukaku sealed AS Roma's victory in the dying moments of the game, receiving a fantastic pass and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
