Otieno salivating on second tier Golden Boot

Despite the possibility of spending the next month on the sidelines, Vihiga United winger Isaac Otieno believes that the setback will not deter him from clinching the National Super League (NSL) Golden Boot at the end of the season.

Otieno has been out for the last two weeks nursing an ankle injury and will miss action in the next three weeks as he undergoes rehabilitation.

The right-footed wing wizard who has five goals against his name this season had earlier hinted of his plan to claim the top scorer’s award at the end of the season and land lucrative offers elsewhere.

The midfielder was rumoured to be on his way to Gor last year with Mathare United also reportedly being interested in his signature.

However, his quest suffered a blow when he hurt his ankle but he has come out to dispel the suggestion that the time spent on the treatment table will dent his chances of closing in on the leading scorer Ezekiel Okare who has twelve goals thus far.

Okare who boasts of top-flight experience having played for Ulinzi Stars, Sofapaka and Posta Rangers joined MCF before the season began alongside Elijah Mwanzia.

Apart from going for individual glory, the former Kisumu All Stars player is also keen on helping Vihiga regain promotion to the top flight scene.

“My ultimate goal is to claim the Golden Boot at the end of the season and aid the club get back to the top league. I joined when the team was up there and the best we can do is to fight for promotion. Regarding my personal target, I hope that I will recover within the set time and get back to the pitch and continue chasing it,” he said.

Otieno joined Vihiga in February last year from All Stars.
