During his first stint, Addo oversaw 12 matches recording four wins, four draws, and four losses marking a 33.3%-win rate

The Ghana Football Association has reappointed former Black Stars coach Otto Addo as the new head coach according to reports in Ghana and will be handed a 34-month contract by GFA when the current Bundesliga season concludes since he is attached to Borussia Dortmund.

Addo, who played for Ghana from 1999 to 2006, will take back the role he held before during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, after which he left to take a permanent role at Dortmund

The former Ghana international replaces Chris Hughton who was dismissed after leading the team to a disastrous Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Ivory Coast earlier this year where the Black Stars were eliminated at the group stage.

In a statement issued by the country’s football governing body President Kurt Okraku on Friday said the 48-year-old was impressive during the interview process and was the best pick for the five-member committee that was tasked with searching for a new manager.

Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision.”

There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period due to our peculiar situation

The Committee was overly satisfied with Otto’s performance for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval,” President Okraku added.

During his first stint, Addo oversaw 12 matches recording four wins, four draws, and four losses marking a 33.3%-win rate.

Notably, he led Ghana to overcome Nigeria in the final World Cup qualification playoffs which saw the team qualify for Qatar 2022. However, the trainer stepped down after an unsuccessful campaign where Ghana lost against Uruguay to bow out from the group phase.
