CEO Barry Otieno's phone went straight to voice mail within minutes of news of the arrest.

Trickling news that former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has been re-arrested barely twenty-four hours after state dropped corruption charges against him have sparked social media uproar.

Commentators accuse the government of using security agencies to persecute the embattled Kariobangi Sharks owner. Wednesday mid-morning the state withdrew Mwendwa’s charges under Section 87 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This kind of withdrawal meant he could be rearrested immediately and charged afresh.

Before his apprehension today speculation was rife that the DCI would nab him again and prefer new charges. And the police lived up to this expectation by whisking Mwendwa into custody on Thursday 7th July 2022.

The fate of other National executive Committee members remains undefined as some of them were co signatories of the more than ten FKF bank accounts from which the state alleges massive looting of funds occurred.

According to sources, Mwendwa was napped by police at his Kiambu Road home and rushed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office for grilling before being arraigned at the Kiambu Law Courts.

The reason for his arrest after the state dropped charges against Mwendwa on Wednesday is still not clear with his planned arraignment in court set to shed more light on the matter.

Since his ouster back in November 2021, Mwendwa has been battling graft charges as he accused of embezzling funds in the region Ksh. 38 million following a report compiled by the Sports Registrar, Rose Wasike.
